Children and Families
The aim of our children and families work is to support children and young people as they explore their own faith and to support local parents and carers as they nurture their families.
Hannah Lowry is employed, part-time, as our Children and Families Leader. She coordinates and leads HBC’s work with children and families in the church and in the wider community.
Our children and young people are encouraged to be involved in the life of the church, and on Sundays they are supported and encouraged to take part and serve. We currently have children and young people playing in the worship group and operating the sound system.
At the beginning of our Sunday services we share about 25 minutes together as a church family. The children and young people are then invited to take part in our Bubbles group which happens in the back room of Napier Hall.
As a church family, we are keen to build relationships and work with the community and as such the children and families work is not constrained to Sunday morning. We have strong links with the local junior school: listening to readers; taking assemblies and RE lessons; running Christian-based clubs for the children. As well as attending their prayer meetings, Hannah is also a governor for the school.
Outside of school, we run a Grans and Tots group on a Wednesday morning and two traditional toddler groups, one on a Tuesday morning and one on a Thursday morning. On a Friday morning, we also hold a coffee hour at a local cafe, Oh So’s. This is a chance for families in the community to gather over a hot drink, chat and support one another after the Friday morning school run.
Once a half-term, we run an after-school children’s event. This is a chance for us to build stronger links with local children and their families. These events include games, crafts, quizzes, DVDs, bible stories, and, of course, food!
